About Barak Source for Learning

Barak Source For Learning is a nonprofit organization providing resources via on-site training and implementation of alternative education and leadership programs for schools, neighborhoods and community groups.

Our programs include conflict resolution, diversity awareness and positive communication skill building among others, and all are designed using the arts and activities which build cultural awareness; whether they are day-long, intensives or full month-long camps, each program is tailored to the specific community being served.

Diversity Matters
Grades: 3-12+
Student Profile: Youth/Adult challenged with communicating effectively with groups outside of their own communities.
Intervention: Moderate and Intensive
Staffing: Instructor
Training: Required

Program overview:
Allows participant training in dealing with diversity in their community.
Provides training on topics like dealing with diversity, race, Crime and crime prevention. Programs are developed to encourage leaders.

Leadership
Grades: 4-12+
Student Profile: Youth/Young adult and Adults: needing leadership instruction and principles and methods of leadership in diverse situations.
Intervention: Moderate and Intensive
Staffing: Instructor

Program overview:
Participants learn leadership quality and methodology. Participants gain the training required to be a positive leader or productive member of a group. Diversity, conflict resolution are fundamentals of leadership program.

Conflict Resolution
Grades: 3-12+
Student Profile:
Youth/ Young adult and Adults: challenged with handling conflict in an effective manner. Methods of proper conflict resolution.
Intervention: Moderate and Intensive
Staffing: Instructor

Program overview:
Instruction in proper conflict resolution. Participants gain knowledge of conflict resolution and first hand experience of mediation.

Healthy Choices
Grades: K-12+
Student Profile: Youth/Young adult and Adults: struggling with proper physical and mental health choices. Introduction to alternative physical and mental outlets.
Intervention: Moderate and Intensive
Staffing: Instructor
Training: Required
Technical: Computers, Internet Access, athletic clothing “when needed” Medical waiver “if needed”
Program overview:
Alternative experiences of physical activity: to include sports, hiking and fishing or gardening.
Alternative experiences of mental activity: to include art, dance and musical programs and production.

Community Emerges
Grades: K-12+
Student Profile: Youth/Young adult and Adults: in need of motivation in positive connections to their communities. Learning experiences in the community to continue to effect positive change.
Intervention: Moderate and Intensive
Staffing: Facilitators/ Instructors as needed
Training: CDL licensed Required for travel
Technical: Computers, Internet Access
Program overview:
Fieldtrips: with practical learning involved: these trip are merit based and are designed for participants to experience diversity and connection to the surrounding community. Designed to produce positive community engagement.
Volunteerism Programs: Chances to perform supervised volunteer activities.
